Extended Observations

The N4S covers front, cabin, and rear simultaneously at resolutions that actually hold up at night — this is three-channel coverage done without obvious compromise.

Let me start with the one thing that trips up most three-channel dash cams: night footage from the rear camera. On cheaper systems, the third lens is an afterthought — low resolution, washed out by headlights, useless in a dispute. The Vantrue N4S runs STARVIS 2 sensors across all three channels, and the rear 1440p output at night is genuinely readable. License plates show up. That matters when you actually need the footage.

The front camera records at 2.7K with HDR, and the PlatePix technology does what it claims — it prioritizes plate clarity even when the rest of the frame is dealing with harsh contrast. I tested this in direct morning sun on a highway commute, conditions that usually blow out the windshield scene or crush the shadows. The N4S handled it better than most single-channel units I've tested at this price point, let alone a three-channel rig.

The interior IR camera is a legitimate feature, not a checkbox. It reads faces and activity in a dark cabin clearly enough to be useful. For rideshare drivers or anyone who wants cabin documentation, the IR night vision holds up without washing the image in that greenish haze you get from cheaper IR implementations.

WiFi connectivity and GPS both work reliably. The app pulls footage without the usual connection-drop frustrations, and GPS tracking overlays cleanly on video files. Voice control is responsive enough that I stopped doubting it after the first few days. The 24/7 parking mode with low-voltage cutoff means you can leave it hardwired without killing your battery — assuming you pick up the separate hardwire kit, which you'll want.

Two things to flag before you buy. First, the hardwire kit is sold separately, and you'll need it to use parking mode properly — that's an extra $20–$30 and a half-hour under the dash. Second, the unit runs warm during extended recording in a hot car. It hasn't caused any issues in my testing, but if you park in direct sun in a hot climate, give it some thought. Neither issue changes the overall picture: the N4S is one of the most capable three-channel systems at this price, and it earns that position on footage quality alone.

Our Verdict

The N4S covers front, cabin, and rear simultaneously at resolutions that actually hold up at night — this is three-channel coverage done without obvious compromise.
