Extended Observations

Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix is the definitive version of one of the PS2's best racing games — more cities, more cars, more customization, and still a total blast.

If you grew up with a PlayStation 2, there's a good chance Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix holds a special place in your memory. And if you're coming to it fresh? You're in for a genuinely great time. This is open-world street racing done right — fast, flashy, and way more fun than it has any right to be after all these years.

The Remix edition is the version you want. It adds Atlanta and Detroit to the original's roster of San Diego, Atlanta, and Tokyo — wait, scratch that — it adds two extra cities on top of what the base game offered, giving you more terrain to tear through and more opponents to humiliate. The car list is massive, spanning everything from tuners to muscle cars to SUVs, and the customization goes deep. You can spend an embarrassing amount of time just tweaking paint and rims before you ever hit the road.

The racing itself holds up really well. The handling is arcade-style in the best way — responsive, satisfying, and forgiving enough that you don't need to be a racing game veteran to enjoy it. Special abilities like the agro ram and roofless trick add a layer of strategy that keeps things interesting beyond just flooring it and hoping for the best.

The soundtrack is also worth calling out. It's a time capsule of mid-2000s hip-hop and R&B that somehow makes every race feel like a music video. Whether that's a selling point or a warning depends on your taste, but it fits the vibe perfectly.

The main knocks are that used copies can run pricey given it's a PS2 disc, and the game does show its age in a few places — the AI can be a bit rubber-bandy, and some of the city navigation takes getting used to without a modern minimap. But honestly? Those are small complaints for a game that delivers this much entertainment.

Our Verdict

Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix is the definitive version of one of the PS2's best racing games — more cities, more cars, more customization, and still a total blast.
