I'd already bought a $45 option from a big-box store, then a $90 one that promised 'soothing vibrations,' and my daughter rejected both within a week. A friend with a four-month-old practically grabbed me by the shoulders and said 'just get the BabyBjörn.' So I did. And yeah — she was right.
The Balance Soft works on the baby's own movement, which sounds like marketing fluff until you watch your newborn shift their weight and the seat gently responds. There's no motor, no batteries, no charging cable to lose at 3 a.m. My daughter figured out pretty quickly that her own wiggles made it bounce, and watching that little lightbulb moment happen was genuinely one of the better parenting moments of the early weeks.
The four reclining positions are a real feature, not just a bullet point. We started fully reclined for the newborn stage and gradually moved her upright as she got stronger. Now at five months she sits in the most upright position and watches me make coffee like a tiny, judgmental supervisor.
