Living With the Love to Dream Swaddle UP Sleep Sack

The Love to Dream Swaddle UP is the rare baby product that actually delivers on its promise — my newborn went from startle-waking every 45 minutes to logging real stretches of sleep.

If you've been Googling 'love to dream swaddle' at midnight while bouncing a baby on a yoga ball, first of all — solidarity. Second, let me save you some time and tell you what I wish someone had told me before I bought half the swaddle aisle.

Traditional swaddling wraps arms down against the body, which is based on the idea that restricting movement calms babies. And it does work for some infants. But a lot of newborns — especially the ones who seem to have strong opinions from day one — fight that position relentlessly. They're not being difficult; they're trying to get their hands to their face, which is how they self-soothe. The Love to Dream Swaddle UP is built around that instinct rather than against it, and that's the whole reason it works as well as it does.

The arms-up position keeps the baby snug and contained (which addresses the startle reflex) while still letting them bring their hands to their mouth for comfort. It sounds almost too simple, but the difference in my daughter's sleep quality was noticeable within the first couple of nights. She stopped doing that full-body flinch that would jolt her awake, and she could settle herself back down more easily when she did stir.

One thing worth knowing before you buy: swaddle sizing matters more than you'd think. The Swaddle UP Small fits 8–13 lbs, but the fit needs to be snug to work properly. If your baby is already 12 lbs and growing fast, consider ordering the Medium at the same time so you're not caught off guard during a sleep regression when the last thing you want is a gear change.

And when your baby starts showing signs of rolling — usually somewhere around 3–4 months — you'll want to transition away from a full swaddle. Love to Dream's Transition Swaddle has zip-off wings that let you wean one arm at a time, which is a much gentler approach than going cold turkey. It's worth knowing that exit ramp exists before you fall in love with the Swaddle UP, so the eventual transition doesn't feel like losing a lifeline.
